Attractions Near Chattanooga


The Chattanooga area is known for some of the best attractions and activities in the country. Below, we've listed some of our favorite outings that are still close to Riverside Bed and Breakfast. Rock City Gardens in Chattanooga

Rock City is a tourist area on Georgia's Lookout Mountain. Rock City is 1,700 feet above sea level, and features a 4,100-foot walking trail, a 200-foot Swing-A-Long bridge, and a 100-foot cascading waterfall. You can view unusual rock formations, beautiful gardens, and numerous caves. At Rock City, you can take a self-guided tour of Lookout Mountain that includes an excellent view of the areas around the mountain. 

Rock City also has a variety of special events during the year. For example, Summer Music Weekends are featured during summers, Rocktoberfest takes place on October weekends, and the Enchanted Garden of Lights takes place from late November until early January. Another one of Rock City's extremely popular events is the Southern Blooms Festival that takes place in May.
Ruby Falls Tennessee

Ruby Falls, located in Chattanooga, is a series of waterfalls located within the summit of Lookout Mountain. Ruby Falls is the deepest and tallest underground waterfall available to tourists in the U.S. Guided tours allow you to explore the cave's stalagmites, stalactites, flowstone, and drapery formations. You can also enjoy a fantastic waterfall light show.

Ruby Falls has a variety of other attractions besides the actual falls. For example, you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside from Lookout Mountain Tower and Blue Heron Overlook. You can also enjoy a great meal at the Cavern Cafe, or stop by the Village Gift Shop to pick up a momento. The Ruby Falls site also has a 40-foot climbing tower and around 700 feet of zip lines.

The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tennessee is a non-profit public aquarium on the banks of the Tennessee River. Accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Tennessee Aquarium is considered one of the top public aquariums in the U.S. The aquarium is actually divided into two parts: River Journey, and Ocean Journey. River Journey is one of the largest freshwater aquariums in the world, with a total of 400,000 gallons of water. River Journey includes a number of excellent exhibits. For example, Delta Country features various species from the Mississippi River delta area, including alligators and snapping turtles. Another exhibit you'll want to visit is the Rivers of the World exhibit, which has aquaria related to the Amazon River, Fly River, and Congo River. Ocean Journey is a massive aquarium that has a total of 700,000 gallons of water. It features species that you might find in the Gulf of Mexico, including various sharks and rays. Tennessee Aquarium also offers numerous educational programs.

Southern Belle Riverboat

Considered one of Chattanooga's best attractions, the Southern Belle Riverboat allows you to take a scenic tour along the Tennessee River while you enjoy fantastic meals, drinks, and entertainment. Southern Belle Riverboat has daily lunch cruises, dinner cruises, and sightseeing cruises. You can also book a private charter, if you prefer. The riverboat is an excellent venue for weddings and other group events. The ship can accommodate as many as 340-375 guests, depending on your dining plans. Southern Belle Riverboat has bandstands, dance floors, and bars that will help make your event an unforgettable one.

Oren Wooden's Apple House

Oren Wooden's Apple House has been offering farm-fresh produce for six generations. Here, you can enjoy close to 20 varieties of apples, along with peaches and other fruits. For a real treat, be sure to stop by the Orchard Cafe when visiting Oren Wooden's and try their Apple Cider BBQ Pulled Pork.
