Best Mountain Biking Trails Near Chattanooga

Eastern Tennessee is home to some great mountain biking trails, especially in the Chattanooga area. And, there is no shortage of outdoor beauty in the areas surrounding Chattanooga, from nature parks like Enterprise South Nature Park to towering mountains such as Raccoon Mountain. Each offers some unique mountain biking opportunities.

Easy Trails

Black Forest Mountain Bike Trail

Address: Enterprise South Nature Park, 192 Still Hollow Loop, Chattanooga, TN
Hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Length: 3.6 miles

This trail features some up-and-down sections but nothing too difficult. There are no rocky sections but there are some rooty stretches. You can access the trail from a trailhead on Still Hollow Loop Road (the third parking area after the fork with Poe Run Road. Ride along a paved trail until you reach the mountain bike trail on the right.

Bay Point Loop Trail

Address: Harrison Bay State Park, 7855 Bay Marina Circle, Harrison, TN
Hours: A half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset
Length: 4.5 miles

This easy/intermediate mountain bike trail sits in the Harrison Bay State Park along the shores of Chickamauga Lake. The overall trail is pretty gentle but does feature some rooty sections. Visitors should consider weather circumstances as mud pits will remain for some time after rain. Still, this trail offers plenty of chances to stop and enjoy the natural beauty of Chickamauga Lake. Parking is available at the Bay Point Loop Trailhead.

Intermediate Trails

Booker T. Washington State Park

Address: 5801 Champion Road, Chattanooga TN
Length: Varies by loop
Hours: 7 a.m. to sunset

Booker T. Washington State Park is home to a seven-mile biking trail that breaks down into three sections. Each section is intermediate, featuring long uphill climbs and some fast downhill stretches and banked turns. This trail provides some gorgeous views of Chickamauga Lake. The trails are in the northern portion of the park with access from the upper and lower parking lots.

TNT Mountain Bike Trail

Address: Enterprise South Nature Park, 192 Still Hollow Road, Chattanooga, TN
Length: 4.4 miles
Hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can access the trail from a trailhead on Still Hollow Loop Road (the third parking area after the fork with Poe Run Road. Ride along a paved trail until you reach the mountain bike trail on the right. While the trail is largely smooth, it does feature several tough climbs.

Difficult Trail

High Voltage

Directions: Exit Interstate 24 at exit 175 and turn right on Browns Ferry Road. Follow until Elder Mountain Road and turn left. Follow until TVA Access Road where you will turn right until you arrive at the Visitor's Center.
Length: 3.1 miles
Hours: Visitor's Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through October; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. November through March.

You can access this trail from the Laurel Point parking lot on Raccoon Mountain. This trail contains some steep, tight switchbacks though the track is smooth. After the initial section, the trail continues downhill for a fast and smooth ride the rest of the ray. This ride isn't a loop so riders can either head to the Boat Ramp parking lot on Raccoon Mountain Road or ride the trail in reverse uphill.

Raccoon Mountain
Raccoon Mountain is home to a 28-mile multi-use trail system that surrounds the Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage generating plant. There are numerous trails there that range in difficulty but offer some amazing views of both the generating plant and the nearby mountains.

Enterprise South Nature Park
This nature park features several mountain bike trails perfect for all ages. This includes two beginner trails; an intermediate trail; and two advanced ones.
